SYSTEM OF A DOWN Guitarist: It's All About The Songs

February 10, 2005

As the release approaches of the first half of their new album, "Mezmerize/Hypnotize", SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian said the group is less concerned with making aggressive music than making good music. "SYSTEM's always revolved around our songs, as opposed to just aggression and making people pit," he told Launch Radio Networks. "We'd rather people listen to the songs and sing along to the songs. That's what we do, we write songs. We've never written riffs, we've never written parts, we write songs."

SYSTEM OF A DOWN recently completed a headlining stint on Australia and New Zealand's Big Day Out festival, where they surprised audiences by opening their set with the ballad "Aerials", from their 2001 "Toxicity" album.

"Mezmerize", the first half of "Mezmerize/Hypnotize", arrives in stores on April 26. "Hypnotize" is due out sometime this fall.

The first official single from the album, "B.Y.O.B.", will make its way to rock radio at the end of this month.
