TAPROOT Working On New Album

March 24, 2007

ChartAttack.com reports that Ann Arbor, Michigan hard rock band TAPROOT has started work on the follow-up to its 2005 album, "Blue-Sky Research".

According to the band's MySpace page, they'll work with producer Tim Patalan on the as-yet untitled album. It's unknown yet if it will be released independently or through a major label.

"We expect to be finished recording within the next 6-8 weeks, and have the album out by January 2008," bassist Phil Lipscomb wrote earlier this month. "Haha, just kidding…should be out by early summertime."

TAPROOT had approximately 20 song ideas kicking around in late November and had been placing a weekly clip entitled "TaprooTube Tuesday" on their site for fans. But Lipscomb says that not everything that's been shown will end up on the record. While most of the songs are untitled, one video shows the band performing a tune with the working title "Kevin Spacey".

"We've chosen most of the songs, but there is always room for change and we might write more stuff as we go on," Lipscomb says. "Expect some cool stuff on this record."

The new album will be the band's first since parting with Atlantic Records last June. They're also reportedly working on a DVD, but there's no word as to when that will see the light of day.

TAPROOT, which formed in 1997, is perhaps best known for its 2002 album, "Welcome". It included the hit singles "Poem" and "Welcome".
