TED NUGENT To Attend Dedication In Palatine For MA NUGENT Memorial

July 24, 2007

Motor City Madman Ted Nugent will arrive in Palatine on August 1, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. just outside Durty Nellies pub and eatery at 180 N. Smith, Palatine Illinois prior to his early evening concert at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, to attend the dedication of a rock 'n' roll monument to his late mother, Marion "Ma" Nugent.

Spearheaded by local musician and Palatine resident Eric Kinkel, the 7,800-pound stone tribute will be unveiled in front of Palatine eatery and music pub Durty Nellie's in downtown Palatine, Illinois.

"Ma" Nugent, as she was affectionately known, was a Palatine resident for 28 years. "Ma Nugent's Mail," a "Dear Abby" of sorts, ran in the Illinois Entertainer from 1980-1988. A buoyant and outgoing personality, Marion Nugent shared her love of music with those she met. A constant and vocal supporter of Ted and his career, Ma would attend Ted's shows, as well as frequent local concert halls and smaller venues to lend her support to those she felt she could inspire to "be the best they could be."

A family friend, Kinkel decided it was time to honor the foremost rock 'n' roll mom. "After she passed away in 1988, there was never anything done to honor Ted's mom in a way that she should be remembered," Kinkel said. After discussing his plans with Ted and Durty Nellie's club owner Mark Dolezal, along with mayor Rita Mullins, Kinkel proceeded with his project. Palatine business owner Paul Munagian of Class Landscaping has donated the four-ton boulder and is helping to procure the monument in front of Durty Nellies, surrounding it with a dazzling flower bed. With Ted's support, Eric is now able to honor Ma Nugent in perpetuity by erecting this monument, complete with a sand-blasted likeness of "Ma" and a bronze plaque engraved with an inscription penned by Kinkel along with input from Ted.

Giving credit where credit is due, "Ma" Nugent will always be remembered for giving birth to one of rock 'n' roll's greatest living legends.
