THANATOS Accuse ATARI TEENAGE RIOT Of 'Borrowing' One Of Their Riffs

July 17, 2004

Long-running Dutch death metal band THANATOS have accused the now-defunct German anarcho-ravers ATARI TEENAGE RIOT of sampling a riff from one of their songs without giving proper credit. According to THANATOS, the ATARI TEENAGE RIOT track "Into the Death" (Windows Media),which appeared on their 1996 release "Delete Yourself", contains the main riff from THANATOS' "Bodily Dismemberment" (Windows Media),which was originally recorded for the group's 1990 album, "Emerging From The Netherworlds". "We don't know whether we should be honored or upset about a well-known band as ATARI TEENAGE RIOT 'borrowing' one of our riffs," the band write. "Guess they cannot come up with any proper ideas themselves…"

THANATOS' fourth full-length album, "Undead. Unholy. Divine", has just been released through Greece's Black Lotus Records The follow-up to 2000's "Angelic Encounters", "Undead. Unholy. Divine" was produced by Hans Pieters and the band at Excess studios in Rotterdam, Holland and was mastered by Attie Bauw (JUDAS PRIEST, SCORPIONS, GOREFEST). The CD cover features a "great painting" by famous Polish artist Jacek Wisniewski. Additional artwork was done by Seth and Don Marco de Bruin. The album includes a guest appearance on backing vocals by Ashmedi (MELECHESH) and Ed Warby (STAR ONE, AYREON, ex-GOREFEST).
