THE CULT Frontman: Drummer TEMPESTA 'Has Given Us A Much-Needed Foundation'
March 30, 2006THE CULT frontman Ian Astbury has commented on the group's current touring lineup, which includes fellow CULT principal Billy Duffy (guitar) alongside bassist Chris Wyse, drummer John Tempesta (ex-WHITE ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, HELMET) and rhythm guitarist Mike Dimkich.
Said Ian: "John Tempesta has given us a much-needed foundation. I think the variety of material is a great muse for him as a drummer. I am confident we will grow together as a band not just the 'Ian and Billy Show.' Mike is essential and Chris is wonderful — understated, but they all gell so well together. Looking forward to seeing what the recording gods have in store for us."
In a recent interview with Launch Radio Networks, Duffy stated that he's not sure whether he and frontman Ian Astbury will record new music or not. "We'll give it a shot," he said. "We've always written songs together. We'll do the same thing, and if they're any good then we'll maybe get them out to the public. You know, there's no grand design, just a really simple process. If we write anything worth releasing, we'll release it."
Duffy did say that he and Astbury both have ideas, with Astbury's coming from a planned solo effort that never materialized.
THE CULT's last album was 2001's "Beyond Good and Evil".
Despite the renewed THE CULT activity, Astbury retains his membership in the current version of THE DOORS, known as RIDERS ON THE STORM, while Duffy's other band, CIRCUS DIABLO, plans to release an album later this year.
