THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA Working On New Material
December 19, 2009After returning from a momentous U.K. run with ENTER SHIKARI and headlining dates through the rest of Europe, Dayton, Ohio Christian metalcore band THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA is already working on its next record, tentatively due in late 2010.
Commented guitarist Jeremy DePoyster: "We are working on stuff right now, and I want to put the right amount of time into it since there was pressure and eyes on our current record. There will be more pressure and eyes on the next record to see if we can keep doing it.
"We're still writing and have tours planned, so hopefully we can find some studio time. It's a little early to say. We'll see."
He continued, "We spend so much time on the road and working together that it's like we find time.
"We already wrote some songs, and Chris [Rubey, lead guitar] has been writing on his laptop ... I'll chime in, change parts or record vocals.
"We have a mobile setup.
"What we did last time was take six weeks before a tour, met four or five times a week, and six weeks after a tour, five or six days a week and cracked down. We rented a warehouse space and wrote everything. We will do the same thing this time. That environment creates more of a vibe than demos on laptop."
Armed with the critically acclaimed CD "With Roots Above and Branches Below", which was released earlier this year, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA — Mike Hranica (lead vocals),DePoyster, guitarist Chris Rubey, bassist Andy Trick, keyboardist James Baney, and Daniel Williams on drums — kicked off the 2009 edition of the Napalm & Noise Tour on November 19 in Rochester, New York at the Water Street Music Hall. The band, who Alternative Press called "one of American metal's brightest lights," is co-headlining the month-long metal extravaganza with ALL THAT REMAINS.
Napalm & Noise is the first tour THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA has headlined since their 43-date, completely-sold-out jaunt last spring, which coincided with the release of "With Roots Above and Branches Below" (Ferret Music),and its #11 debut on The Billboard 200 album chart. Since then, the band played the Vans Warped Tour main stage, and found itself on the cover of Outburn, Alternative Press, HM and AMP, to name just a few.
Live, the six-piece THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA presents a powerful intensity that many other metalcore bands never quite achieve, with savage riffs, bulldozing guitar, thunderous beats, manic synths, and an assault of abrasive vocals. On this tour, the band is performing songs from all three of their releases — 2006's "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord", 2007's "Plagues", and the new "With Roots Above and Branches Below", including the video track "Danger: Wildman".
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA will support KILLSWITCH ENGAGE on a U.S. tour in February/March 2010. Also appearing on the bill is DARK TRANQUILLITY.
El Vato Loco of Capital Chaos conducted an interview with Hranica and DePoyster (rhythm guitar) prior to THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA's December 5, 2009 concert at the Empire in Sacramento, California. Watch the chat below.
