THE GATES OF SLUMBER Issues Studio Update
January 15, 2008Indianapolis, Indiana's THE GATES OF SLUMBER is currently recording its third album, "Conqueror", with producer Sanford Parker, who has previously worked with BIBLE OF THE DEVIL, LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR and NACHMYSTIUM, among others. A May release via I Hate in Europe and Profound Lore in North America is expected.
"Things are going off pretty well," the band writes. "The sound is pretty stellar and so far this will be the best sounding THE GATES OF SLUMBER album ever. The songs have all come together pretty strong and there are moments that still make my hair stand on the back of my neck when I hear the playback.
"There is a lot of killer shit going on. There is some stuff for the old-school THE GATES OF SLUMBER die-hard doom fans, that is for sure. There is also a bit of an upbeat tick to a couple of tracks as well that harken to more of a heavy metal feel too. So far the outcome is pretty strong."
THE GATES OF SLUMBER's debut album, "The Awakening", will finally be reissued in the spring via Emissary Records. The LP, which was originally released in February 2004 on Belgium's now-defunct Final Chapter Records, has been out of print for the last two years. The album features the live favorites "Broken on the Wheel" and "The Jury".
This new version is a remastered edition that includes a bonus track ("The Cloaked Figure"),which was recorded during the original studio session, a totally new cover done by Ken Kelly (KISS, RAINBOW, MANOWAR and also THE GATES OF SLUMBER's second album, "Suffer No Guilt"). It will also come with a DVD featuring live footage taken from Doom Shall Rise III, London and other hotspots around the globe featuring the lineup from that album.
