THE GATHERING Announce Formation Of Psychonaut Records, EP Release Planned For June

May 3, 2002

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

THE GATHERING is proud to inform you the birth of their independent label Psychonaut Records. After a couple of years working with metal label Century Media, the band did not renew their contract but decided to start their own label. They like exploring new ways in the music scene by doing everything themselves including the business side of running a label and promotion.

It is exciting to start with a 'do-it-yourself' attitude and have absolute artistic and creative freedom, said main co-operators of Psychonaut RecordsHans Rutten and Hugo Prinsen Geerlings (respectively drummer and bass player of THE GATHERING). Inge Steenhorst (already working for several years as manager of CIRRHA NIVA) will run the promotion division of Psychonaut Records.

Celebrating their 12- year anniversary, THE GATHERING will treat their fans by releasing a mini CD called Black Light District on the 17th of June 2002. After 2 years working on new material THE GATHERING will release 2 new albums this year, shooting off with the mini CD in June. This mini CD will at first be available through Internet only via this location. There will be an online shop where you can order via credit card and bank accounts. Of course it is possible to buy the mini CD on tour at the merchandise stand.

Black Light District will contain 4 songs, approximately half an hour of music including "Debris", a piano/vocals version of "Broken Glass" (from the upcoming full-length album). Title song "Black Light District" was recorded live in the studio, and lasts more then 18 minutes, it also has some narrative vocals done by Sarah Jezebel Deva, session vocalist of THERION. This song contains a mixture of ambient parts combined with some very heavy eruptions, definitely a lot of variation and emotions.

The new material has become, due to some problems with the old label, quite dark and gloomy. It became quite clear that releasing 2 separate albums would be the best idea. The mini CD contains a lot of musical freedom and experiment, while the full-length album will be dark and moody with groovy rhythm section parts.

THE GATHERING start touring again in August, doing some festivals throughout Europe and they hit the road again with an European tour starting November 2002, when the full-length album is in store.
