THE HAUNTED Frontman: 'Internet Nihilists Know Jack Sh*t'

August 16, 2007

THE HAUNTED frontman Peter Dolving has posted the following message on his MySpace page:

"It just dawned on me. Internet nihilists know jack shit. Easy. Why? Sitting on your ass, making degrading comments on what other people do is traditionally the job of the most soulless of all creatures: lawyers, jurisdictors and neo-liberal copywriters/journalists. These days, with the wonderful possibilities the Internet creates, all is open game. I don't mind really, but I do think it's only fair to turn their shit back at them. Besides it's great fun, and poking the open wound as the jocks and bullies of this world slowly degenerate into the pudgy fudgepackers they really are, just can't be helped for the joyous grace it carries.

"Misantropic attitudes are for idiots who'd be better off with a needle in their arm, a rope around their neck and a self deployed bullet passing through skin and bone of the back of their heads by way of the frontal lobe and the amygdala.

"I know. I just make it so easy, don't I?

"By the way. I love homos, gay people, f.ggots, dykes and queer folk in general for one simple reason: they manage to transcend one of the hardest things to leave behind in the world — conformity. We in the western world live in a society where the hetero, sexist, and capitalist norm has completely engulfed us all. That's just fact. There's nothing radical about stating that for what it is. Poking fun at anyone who points that out is simply moronic. It's like making fun of someone who is standing outside when it's raining and exclaims 'It's wet!' Sure — it can be a laugh dropping the ol' 'Duh!...' but the statement is never the less accurate. The question is rather, 'What to do about it?'

"During the rise of national socialism in Germany in the '30s a LOT of people did actually question Hitler's goons, their methods, and their philosophy. But because of authoritarian tradition and culture of that time, not enough people really took the time to think. The fear of being 'different' or part of 'degenerate' culture was and is the trademark of social stagnation and so called 'repression' (I hate that expression, it sound sooooo fucking PC it makes me puke...) and it always, ALWAYS makes room for fascism in one form or another.

"Why does this concern me so much? Well, mostly because I have serious issues with authority. Timothy Leary, LSD guru and wacko new age philosopher, dropped the beautiful words 'Question authority and think for yourself.'

"Personally I feel those words are as important in 2007 as the were in 1970, maybe even more. Why?

"Because of polarized media. Because of the change of journalist directive. Because of a further understanding of the human psyche. Because of how reality itself is structured. Because dudes with mad skills try to crawl over our dead brothers and sister trying to get even richer. Because of mass electro-waves of violence pumped into our minds 24-7. Because of an entire culture worshipping death.

"I say, FUCK THAT.

"When I travel with THE HAUNTED I have the incredible privilige of meeting people from every part of society, rich and poor, healthy fuckers and nutcases (like myself). I see differences, and likenesses. It has made me realize that one of biggest problems before us all is the fact that we are all pressed into a condition that whether we see it or not, whether we like it or not. One intrisically destructive to EVERYONE. That condition is capitalism.

"NO. I don't have a sollution, and I don't have a a generalized theory on how to change the situation. But I do have the right to question what I see and propose a challenge to the existing 'norm.'

"Some will argue that being a survivalist in thought, like I gladly admit I am, is 'no fun.' I claim the opposite. Because all the things that are really really BAD, according to right-wing Christian Caucasian reality, are mostly really fucking fun. General debauchery is great. Taking it easy, chillin out and relaxing is dude, oh so nice.

"Running in the squirrel-wheel that is achievement oriented reality, on the other hand, really sucks. And being an unfair elitist asshole doesn't really relieve or alieviate the pain or the stress — it just pushes the shit downhill. I'm sure that would have worked if we'd all be living on a giant sugar cone or a shitpile. Problem is we don't. We live on a sphere. Push anything far enough, it ends up in your own lap. Pretty simple huh?

"Now if this offends you, and I don't think most find this very offensive, and you feel you want to fuck with me for saying this, I suggest you grease up, pull down your pants or lift up your skirt and get on all fours real fucking fast, because that's all you'll be getting here baby.

"As for the rest of you super cool people out there I want to thank you for the immense inspiration you offer by just existing, and responding to what I write. It gives me will to live and hope for my kids, and strength to try even harder in leaving the conservative bonehead part of my white male psyche behind. I'm not looking for no big ass guns blazing revolution, that's for pussies, I want it all — I want more life, good times and laughter. Listening to other people has helped me to start reaching for that.

"Oh... By the way, as it turned out I could actually afford to insure my computer this time, for the first time in my life, and next week it's back in my lap, causing more general havoc.

"Man, it's so weird being human. I dig it!"
