THE HAUNTED Frontman: 'What Is So Impressive With The Concept Of Power Anyway?'

September 20, 2006

THE HAUNTED frontman Peter Dolving has posted the following message on his MySpace page:

"So I'm doing the Dortmund.

"Here for interviews for a couple of days, talking to the phone all day with people I don't really know. I actually started writing a blog yesterday and I was really getting into this long skit about the equation of why capitalism is a negative thing for society and then I lost it all because I forgot to save... I felt like gnawing the flesh off my hands.

"Today I feel like, 'Fuck it! No one gives a shit anyway, let 'em all die screaming.' But I guess life is like that, huh?

"I got to go ta an NA meeting last night, thank dog, and I am so greatful that there are meetings all over the place. The first night I got here I got three hours of sleep. Obsessing endlessly, rolling around, mind NOT turning off. But last night after the meeting I slept like a baby. Woke up feeling kinda nice.

"What I was writing about yesterday was basically the gap between the pro capitalist arguments and the actual realities we find ourselves living in. We have needs that can't be solved by money. It's really simple, isn't it?! That and the fact that most people who actually give it some thought see that capitalism in consequence is really nothing but fascism. It's hierachiac, and in essence misogynist, supremacist and racist. People lay down their lives trying to fit into a 'reality' built on hollow promises and chance in a race for the top... or at least a sniff at the soles of the shoes of those a few steps further up the ladder.

"Think about it. There's only so much money.

"Those who have it are not likely to give up the priviliges it contains. In fact, they will do their damnedest to ensure it's solidity and keep ranks by offering positions and opportunities to those they know will do the same.

"Personally I just don't care much about the issue on a deeper emotional level anymore. I feel I've wasted too much energy on feeling negative things about it up until now and instead I intend to do what I can where I am and where I am going. I mean, people, what is so impressive with the concept of power anyway? I mean it's a hollow construct. A dead horse. It's all about laying the responsibilities on someone else. I say fuck that. Sure, I'll accept certain common basics, like the old — 'Thou shallt not kill...' etc. But dude. You and I have a worth, and it's not something to be measured in cash. Sure, you can call Rent-A-Boy for hours of smashing physical distraction, jump off of cliffs with a parachute, go full contact sessions at a dojo, or go wild day-trading. But you cannot buy love.

"One of the things that I find amusing is how neoliberals or defenders of capitalism think all things should be privatized. I find it immensly absurd and funny how anyone can warp reality enough to actually consider things like education, health care and emotional well being to be economic ventures. How is that done with sincerity and pure altruistic intention. I get the image of a very very very frustrated vampire with a forced smile giving another blood bag from his vault to a hepatitis infected old junky who just got hit by a car. Running out to abolutely gorge himself in the face of some teen girl sucking her eye sockets til her brain runs like fucking yoghurt over his otherwise spotless white nurse uniform, in a desperate act of ventilating pent up rage. Nah...

"You see, if there a profit interest involved, but no direct financial profit — there's always ulterior motives. No shit.

"Educate people from a capitalist mode means so many things — mostly it contains the opportunity to direct the facts, bias the material boundaries of reality to suit your prioritized goals. Same thing goes for health care, infrastructure commnuication etc. And what is the ultimate goal for any corporation or capitalism as such? Maximize profit, obviously. The problem is — there is only so much money...

"Capitalism and so called libertarianism is in essence carnivore. It is based in the conviction (though most will deny it) that not all men and women have an equal worth. That indeed some are better and some are worse. Basically, it's all really a question of what thought tradition you confess to.

"Now that is something I would appreciate and enjoy. If people in general would just take a look at how they percieve the world around them. How we consider ourselves in relation to our fellow humans. What we consider as positive and negative. I know that a great deal of people would find that instead of being the capitalist they thought they were they'd understand that in fact they're anarchists. And oh, so many liberals and christian conservatives would understand that they are in fact simply fascists white supremacists. Halos would come dropping like flies in a cloud of spray-on glue. The bigotry of ourselves and the society we create is stunning. How about this for a support group — Fascists Anonomous:

"'Hi, My name is Bob and I'm a woman hating fascist. I used to think my Syrian neighbours really fucking sucked, and I wanted to rape and kill them all because they made me feel strange and impotent, but now thanks to the program I'm beginning to see that perhaps it's all inside me. Today I found myself really enjoying some baklava...'

"Fukkit. I'm tired and I got eight more interviews to do so..."
