THE WILDHEARTS Singer: 'We Still Don't Get The Respect We Deserve'
December 6, 2004Edwin McFee of link textThe Belfast Telegraph is reporting that Ginger has just about seen it all in his decade of destruction with British rock legends THE WILDHEARTS. He's trashed magazine offices, driven cars into swimming pools and managed to come out the other end of a few well-publicised battles with drugs.
One thing, however, has always seemed to evade the Geordie singer — respect.
"I must admit it does sometimes p**s me off that we're known as 'that rowdy junkie band'," he lashes. "I've written over 100 songs, had a string of Top 20 hits and we still don't get the respect I think we deserve. People just seem to write us off as a bunch of nutcases because of the things we've done in the past."
But things are looking up for the reunited four-piece. After spending over 10 years together touring the world, the U.S. music press has just recently proclaimed them "the best new British band," an accolade which seems a little overdue.
"That is pretty funny," laughs the singer. "But I have to say I'm glad of the attention and I suppose to those who hadn't heard of us before, we would seem like a new band. I think we got a lot of press over there because we've toured with THE DARKNESS and MOTÖRHEAD. People are finally starting to listen to us." Read more.
