TOMMY LEE Clarifies His RIHANNA Comments, Says She Is 'An Amazing Singer/Entertainer'

March 22, 2012

MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has released the following statement:

"Time to clear the air!

"We all know how 'the press' sure likes to pick up on negative stuff and run with it, so I'm gonna clean my side of the street.

"Gene Simmons [of KISS] recently mentioned at our MÖTLEY/KISS tour announcement on Tuesday about his distaste for faking it on stage. I somehow got lumped into that by saying that I, too, am tired of all the watered-down, not-so-real performances on award shows/live concerts/etc.

"I am a fan of Rihanna's and think she's an amazing singer/entertainer and I think you all know how much I fucking love electronic music and dance. I make and perform electronic music live. And who am I to say what’s good/bad/real or fake? It is what it is, right?...

"I'll just keep doin my thang hoping that you're all entertained on the highest levels!!!"

During Tuesday's press conference at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California to officially announce details of the KISS/MÖTLEY CRÜE co-headlining 2012 North American summer tour, simply dubbed "The Tour", KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons stated, "We're sick and tired of girls getting up there with dancers and karaoke tapes in back of them. No fake bullshit. Leave that to the Rihanna, Shmianna and anyone who ends their name with an 'A.'"

Backstage, Tommy mostly seemed to agree with Gene. "No disrespect to Rihanna, she's a great singer, but we're in a slump for some shit that has some personality and appeal beyond a bunch of pop stuff that's floating around there," Tommy was quoted as saying. He added, "I'm glad he said that actually because I don't think I can bear watching another fucking award show that is just a little bit better than 'American Idol'. It's fucking pathetic to watch people go out and fucking karaoke with a bunch of lights and video. It's all completely watered down."
