TOMMY LEE: Copies Of New Single Stolen, Auctioned On EBAY
May 24, 2005One hundred copies of "Tryin' to be Me", the first single off MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's upcoming solo release, "Tommyland: The Ride", were reportedly stolen on Friday (May 20) and were being sold on eBay until Monday (May 23),when authorities had the items removed from the Internet auction site. The CDs were apparently taken from a drop shipment at FedEx going to New Jersey that was opened and all contents were stolen.
As previously reported, "Tryin' to be Me" has been made available in streaming audio at TommyLee.tv: Windows Media, Real Media.
"Tryin' to be Me" comes off Tommy's third solo album, "Tommyland: The Ride", due on August 2. The CD will be released in conjunction with his new NBC reality show, "Tommy Lee Goes to College", which is scheduled to debut August 9 on NBC. Produced by Scott Humphrey, "Tommyland: The Ride" features guest performances by such established artists as Chad Kroeger of NICKELBACK, Carl Bell of FUEL, Deryck Whibley of SUM 41, Butch Walker, Joel Madden of GOOD CHARLOTTE, and Nick Carter of the BACKSTREET BOYS.
In a recent interview with MTV.com, Lee had the following to say about the upcoming CD: "This is more like my last record [2002's 'Never a Dull Moment'] than the METHODS OF MAYHEM record, which was all over the place. This one is right down the middle, it's not so hybrid. It has rock, pop, everything."
After his first two major-label solo albums failed to catch platinum fire, Lee has jumped off the major train for "Tommyland" and has hooked up with music distributor the Handleman company in a deal that aims to keep the album's retail price at around $10.
