TOOL, JANE'S ADDICTION 'Officially' Confirmed For LOLLAPALOOZA

April 22, 2009

The Pulse of Radio reports: As more or less confirmed over the past few weeks, TOOL, THE KILLERS, JANE'S ADDICTION, BEASTIE BOYS, KINGS OF LEONand DEPECHE MODE will headline the 2009 Lollapalooza festival, scheduled for its fifth year at Grant Park in Chicago on August 7-9. More than 100 performers were officially announced on Tuesday (April 21),including RISE AGAINST, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, VAMPIRE WEEKEND, DECEMBERISTS, THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT, ARCTIC MONKEYS, COHEED AND CAMBRIA, LOU REED and dozens of others.

An expanded program of electronic and dance music will be held on a club-style stage called "Perry's," after Lollapalooza co-founder and JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell.

Regular passes for the entire weekend are going for $205, with various VIP packages available.

As usual, the festival will be "green" and offer information on environmental and social initiatives. But Farrell told The Pulse of Radio a while back that its main purpose is to entertain. "I like to say there's an equation," he said. "It's 90 percent fun, entertainment, a lifetime experience, and then 10 percent has got to be your charity and your, you know, have a consciousness for the world, because we really are there to have a good time, first and foremost."

JANE'S ADDICTION is headlining Lollapalooza for the first time since it debuted as a touring package in 1991.

Last year's Lollapalooza sold out for the first time since becoming a destination festival, and Farrell told Reuters that this year's edition is looking good despite the poor economy. "We're selling more tickets than ever," he said. "People need an even bigger excuse to escape more than ever and there is no better escape than going to a festival and just tripping and taking in music."
