TOOL's ADAM JONES Recognized For Album Artwork
December 11, 2006Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL guitarist Adam Jones received his first solo Grammy nomination last Thursday (December 7) for "Best Recording Package", thanks to his work as art director for the band's latest album, "10,000 Days". The spectacular packaging includes 3-D artwork and photos, along with a built-in set of stereoscopic lenses through which to view them. Jones told Launch how the concept came about. "We always try to think of something that's never been done before, you know, as far as album packaging, and I've been a fan of stereoscopic photography my whole life and belong to the Southern California Stereoscopic Club," he said. "And we thought if we could get this to work with our budget, you know, and put this out, it'd be really unique and reflecting, you know, a lot of the artwork that I appreciate from the '70s."
Jones has also directed most of TOOL's videos, including its recent clip for "Vicarious".
"10,000 Days" has sold more than 1.3 million copies since its release last May. The CD's latest single is "The Pot".
TOOL finishes a European tour this Wednesday (December 13) in Switzerland. The group will headline Australia and New Zealand's Big Day Out festival in early 2007 before launching another North American jaunt in mid-March.
