TRACII GUNS Would Reunite With PHIL LEWIS Only If The Money Was Right
June 17, 2011Guitarist Tracii Guns recently spoke to RockAAA about the fact that L.A. GUNS has been touring in two competing lineups: one featuring Guns, and another led by his Eighties bandmates, singer Phil Lewis and drummer Steve Riley.
"For me it is really a better situation for everyone," he said. "Those guys in the other band get to do what they want and I get to do what I want. And this is something we never ever got to do in the past. We never got to do what we all wanted to do before. Now it's kind of like a franchise at this point and we're McDonald's."
When asked if he would ever consider reuniting with singer Phil Lewis, he said, "I don't know why I would do. A lot of people say I should do it for the fans but while I honestly respect that opinion I'm 44 years old and I have to be happy. 1989 was a long time ago and I just don't really have the interest to do it."
He added, "Look, I'll be honest with you, I'd do it for money. If L.A GUNS had been such a big band that we'd make $100,000 a night or something, then, of course, I'd do it I'm not an asshole. But doing shows for between $1,000 and $10,000 as we do now, then it wouldn't change anything by having Phil in the band. It doesn't make sense. People come to hear the songs, we're just a band and I think it's very few people who actually hang onto the 1988 / 1989 lineup.
"I think there are some bands that it's worth doing with. MTLEY CRE go out and do an old-school show but that's because they have the fan base to do it. AEROSMITH, man, those guys hate each other. I don't think Phil and I hate each other, but there are a lot of bands who do it strictly for the money but they are lucky to be able to do that."

Tracii Guns recently "got to shred" on "The Price Is Right", an American game show in which contestants compete to identify the pricing of merchandise to win cash and prizes. He said, "I [was] playing the Dean guitar that the contestants [were] bidding on [and] I only [got] 10-20 seconds."
Footage of Tracii's appearance on the program, which was taped on April 19 but aired on May 9, can be viewed below.
