Tribute Concert To Commemorate LED ZEPPELIN's Final Appearance In Tampa
May 16, 2007According to the Tampa Bay Newspapers, Florida radio station 88.5 WMNF will present "Dazed and Confused: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin" on Saturday, May 26, 4 p.m. to midnight, at Skipper's Smokehouse.
More than 16 bands and performers are scheduled to take the stage at the event to commemorate LED ZEPPELIN's final appearance in Tampa on June 3, 1977. Doors open at 4 p.m.; the show begins at 5 p.m. Each band will play three to four songs originally recorded by LED ZEPPELIN.
Skipper's Smokehouse is at 910 Skipper Road in Tampa.
It's been almost 30 years since LED ZEPPELIN canceled a show in the pouring rain at the old Tampa Stadium causing a riot to ensue and a moratorium on concerts there for years to come. LED ZEPPELIN would never play Tampa again, according to organizers of the show.
The show will start out with up-and-coming musicians performing at an open mic, which is open to bands as well as singers and songwriters. The event also will include an air guitar contest for Jimmy Page wannabes from 5 to 7 p.m. The grand prize is a six-month pass to all WMNF concerts and events.
The evening will be topped off as local guitar gods trade licks on ZEP classics.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. Tickets are available by calling 813-238-8001.
Tickets and a full list of performers also are available online at www.WMNF.org.
