TUNGSTEN: Recording Underway

October 23, 2004

TUNGSTEN vocalist/guitarist Al Hodge has posted the following message on the band's web site:

“As of October 6th of this year Mark Talamo (drums/engineer) and myself have begun to re-record the 12 confirmed songs for the new album. From April through August of 2004, we recorded the songs, in more or less a demo state to get a feel for them. At first we thought it was going to be the album, but you all know how we are. It wouldn't be TUNGSTEN unless we took forever to churn this album out. That initial recording always turns into the demo and then we always start from scratch.

"We took September off to listen to all of the songs and work out all of the bugs. Mark Talamo is producing this record and wanted to try something a bit more challenging this time. The rule that was made this time was that all of the tracks that are recorded are to be done all in one take only, with no punch-ins.

"Most bands that record in the studio will play a guitar track or a drum track and if they mess up they will simply just pick up where they left off and add the new track over the mess up. What we are doing this time at H/T Studios down here in Louisiana is very different. This is a very hard and time-consuming process, because if you mess up even near the end, you have to start all over again from the beginning.

"Mark Talamo has been laying the drum tracks during his lunch breaks from work and I've been going to the studio to do the guitar tracks during the week after I get off of work. What's great about doing the 'one-take-only' sessions, is that when we get pissed off after we mess up, it makes the playing a lot more pissed off sounding. So it will reflect in the songs.

"When we finish the rhythm sections of the record, Steve Talamo will come down and lay down the accents and the solos. We are shooting to have the record complete before the end of the year with a release in early 2005. The album and all of the songs are titled. That will be revealed once the album is done."
