URIAH HEEP To Perform At Germany's Rottenburg Prison
July 18, 2008Legendary British rock band URIAH HEEP will perform one of the most unusual shows of its illustrious career next week when it plays a free gig for the inmates of Rottenburg prison in Germany.
Housed in a former castle, the prison will also act as the location for the German launch of URIAH HEEP's first new album in ten years, "Wake The Sleeper".
The concert is being funded by the local city administration, the prison's director Wolfgang Willard announced last Wednesday in Rottenburg (District of Tübingen).
The band will play for one hour in front of about 500 prisoners, and actually had declined to receive a concert fee.
URIAH HEEP has been successful since the beginning of the 70s, with hits like "Lady in Black" and more.
"Considering the number of prisoners attending this gig, this can be considered a first", said Willard, who also emphasized the importance of such an event.
