VAN HALEN Bassist Takes Some Hot Licks, Keeps On Eating
January 4, 2006Steven Austin of The Clarion-Ledger recently conducted a short interview with VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony. The brief question-and-answer session follows:
Q: What gave rise to the creation of the sauces?
Michael: "I can't remember when I didn't like hot food and sauces. I always wanted my own line of sauces, and I hooked up with the folks at Mike and Diane's Gourmet Kitchen, who make one of my favorite hot sauces, Ring of Fire. As we developed my line of sauces, we chose the best and freshest ingredients Mother Earth could offer. My fans and everyone else will love 'em."
Q: Give us a wild story from the road with the band.
Michael: "The band was on tour and we were in Boston. A couple of the guys from AEROSMITH were at the show, and we were going to hang out that night. I was excited because I knew there was a huge buffet of Mexican food backstage waiting for us and I love Mexican food. After the last encore number, I bolted off the stage for the food, and the first thing I grabbed was a jar of Habanero peppers and popped one in my mouth. Now, I can handle the hot stuff, but this almost made me pass out. I thought I had been launched into space."
Q: Choose three dinner companions who are musical legends and where would you dine?
Michael: "I'd dine at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City with the late bassist of THE WHO, John Entwistle, Paul McCartney and my pal, Sammy Hagar. Of course we'd eat my signature skirt steak!"
