VEIL OF MAYA: New Video Interview Posted Online

July 30, 2008

HardTimes.ca recently conducted an interview with Sammy Applebaum (drums) and Kris Hilger (a.k.a. The Hilger; bass) of the Chicago/Milwaukee-based band VEIL OF MAYA. Watch the eight-minute chat below.

VEIL OF MAYA released its latest full-length album, "The Common Man's Collapse", on April 1 via Sumerian Records. According to a press release, the CD is "replete with swift and fluid guitar flourishes, spitting forth notes like lava, lock step drumming that is swifter than a hummingbird's wings and vocals that range from Cro-Magnon throat tones to bestial rage while retaining enunciation."

The band went to North Hollywood to record the album with Mike Keene (THE FACELESS) producing. New vocalist Brandon joined the group after leaving the band ISCARIOT and has exceeded VEIL OF MAYA's expectations in delivery and lyrical content. Brandon says, "I like to keep my lyrics to interpretation and it's a real mix of where I get influence from. There are songs on the album that deal with water as an element, how it can be calm or really brutal. There's a song about a dream I had, there's a song influenced by the world of warcraft, I wrote about twenty songs when I joined the band so there was no shortage of things to talk about."
