VELVET REVOLVER's DAVE KUSHNER Co-Writes Theme Song For FX Show 'Sons Of Anarchy'
September 4, 2008Guitarist/songwriter Dave Kushner of VELVET REVOLVER recently joined forces with award-winning producer and songwriter Bob Thiele Jr. to write the main theme song and end credit theme music for the new FX show "Sons Of Anarchy", which debuted this week on FX. The show airs every Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. EST. The first episode of the show will re-air six times this week (check local listings).
"Sons Of Anarchy" is an adrenalized drama with darkly comedic undertones about a notorious outlaw motorcycle club intent on protecting their sheltered small town against encroaching drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers.
"I was drawn to the show for two reasons," says Kushner. "'Sons' is an incredibly intense, gnarly drama about family and the things we do for love and money when we're not presented the same opportunity others are. Also, it was a chance for me to work with my good friend Bob [Thiele] who is an amazing songwriter/producer/musician."
VELVET REVOLVER is still searching for a new frontman following the departure of Scott Weiland in April.
SPACEHOG's Royston Langdon reportedly jammed with the band a number of times, but guitarist Slash said that while he and the rest of VELVET REVOLVER had clicked with Langdon, they agreed that his voice was too much like Weiland's to suit the group's new sound.
"I think Royston's fantastic, but he's more in the Scott Weiland range, which is great for that, but what we want to do is something aggressive and very hard rock," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Basically, what we originally planned to do the first time around that was sort of molded differently when Scott came into it."
