Veteran U.K. Metal Journalist DOM LAWSON Suffers Heart Attack At BLOODSTOCK Festival; GoFundMe Launched

August 13, 2026

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for veteran U.K. metal journalist Dom Lawson, who suffered a heart attack at the Bloodstock Open Air festival this past weekend.

Lawson, who writes for BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Metal Hammer, Prog, The Guardian and other media outlets, was taken to hospital where he is currently awaiting surgery.

The GoFundMe, which was set up by Dom's friend Alex, seeks £6,600 (approximately $8,900) for Lawson as Dom is "forced to do lots of resting and recuperating for weeks, if not months," rendering him unable to take on freelance work at this time.

Lawson revealed his heart attack in a social media post on Wednesday (August 12),writing: "Unfortunately, I had a heart attack on Sunday and was rushed to hospital. Managed to avoid dying, so that was a good start. Looks like I will be having some kind of surgery in the near future. Close shave but you won't get rid of me that easily."

He added: "Life's a funny old cunt, isn't it? Also, heart attacks fucking hurt. Would not recommend."

Lawson began his career as a music journalist in 1999. He wrote for Kerrang! for seven years, before moving to Metal Hammer and Prog magazines in 2007.

From 2014 to 2016, Dom worked as editor-at-large at Metal Hammer, overseeing the front section of the magazine and helping to mold the some of the features that ran in print every month. Outside of his writing duties, Dom has been a longtime radio host for TotalRock, where he currently hosts "The Dompilation Tapes", a show dedicated to excellent music from pretty much each and every genre you can think of.
