Video: STEVE VAI Performs EAGLES' 'Hotel California' At 'Kennedy Center Honors'
December 28, 2016Legendary guitarist Steve Vai, Colombian singer Juanes and EAGLES guitarist Steuart Smith performed "Hotel California" in front of EAGLES' Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit at the 39th annual Kennedy Center Honors, which aired last night (Tuesday, December 27) on CBS.
The event, which celebrated James Taylor, Al Pacino, Mavis Staples, Argentine pianist Martha Argerich and the EAGLES, featured several other performances of EAGLES tunes, including Vince Gill's reading of "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and Bob Seger's "Heartache Tonight".
"Hotel California" saw Vai and Smith — who was hired by the EAGLES in 2001 to replace Don Felder — splitting the first half of the song's signature guitar solo before jumping right into the dual-guitar section at the end.
The show, which was filmed earlier this month, was hosted by Stephen Colbert.
All the performers joined together at the end to sing "Life In The Fast Lane", with Vai playing a guitar solo while his arms were wrapped around Colbert.
