VINNIE PAUL Says DIMEBAG Is With Him In HELLYEAH

December 7, 2007

The Pulse of Radio reports: This Saturday (December 8) marks the third anniversary of the death of PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, who was shot to death along with three others during a DAMAGEPLAN performance at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. Dimebag's brother and bandmate, drummer Vinnie Paul, was devastated by what happened but found his way back to music by joining the group HELLYEAH.

Although Vinnie was at first hesitant to join another band, he told The Pulse of Radio he thinks it's what his brother would have wanted. "Oh yeah," he said. "I feel like he's with me everywhere and I feel like it was totally meant to be, you know. I told myself that I was not gonna do this unless it was absolutely the right situation, you know. I kind of resisted this at first and then it fell into my lap and, you know, once it did, I totally embraced it and I knew it was the right thing to be doing. And I felt like we had a bond there that was special and something that would be worth traveling down that road for, you know."

Dimebag was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk last May, in a ceremony attended by Vinnie Paul, their father Jerry Abbott and Dimebag's longtime girlfriend, Rita Haney, along with members of ALICE IN CHAINS, ANTHRAX, KISS, SLAYER and Ozzy Osbourne's band.

A bronze bust of Dimebag was unveiled during the ceremony and later installed on the RockWalk's posthumous inductee wall, alongside luminaries such as Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Robert Johnson.

HELLYEAH released its self-titled debut album earlier this year, featuring the singles "You Wouldn't Know", "Alcohaulin' Ass" and "Thank You".

The band, which also features members of MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE, is currently on a headlining tour that stops Friday night (December 7) in Worcester, Massachusetts and finishes on December 14 in Wichita, Kansas.
