'Vokillist' KAM LEE To Re-Record DEATH/MANTAS Classics

February 6, 2008

Former MASSACRE/DEATH and current DENIAL FIEND "vokillist" Kam Lee has announced plans to re-record some of the earliest classics from DEATH and Kam's pre-DEATH band MANTAS (both of which were led by late guitarist/vocalist Chuck Schuldiner) with various guest musicians.

"Yeah...yeah...yeah — I know all the DEATH purist will have something negative to say about this," he said. "I expect all the opposing and contradicting comments saying total bullshit that this will be just another attempt at me trying to reclaim past glory!... blaugh... blaugh... blaugh... waaaagh... waaaagh... waaaagh!!!!

"Go cry to someone who gives a fuck!

"Like it or not... I'm as much a part of that history as Chuck [Schuldiner] was, and I wouldn't think to do anything to down play his involvement in these songs.

"The simple truth is that most of the songs on MANTAS/DEATH's 'Death by Metal' demo '83/'84, DEATH's 'Reign of Terror' demo '84 and DEATH's 'Infernal Death' demo '85 — and many rehersal tapes released during this time — we're both lyrically written be me, and sung by me. Yes, both Chuck and Rick [Rozz] wrote the guitar riffs, but I wrote the drum patterns to these songs and the lyrics to most of these tracks. That's the simple truth to it!

"My idea is to have several different bands come together to re-work these songs and re-record these tracks... with me doing the vocals. It's an idea...right now, but something I'm seriously considering for the near future!

"Those of you with negative comments... go stick your head in the tiolet and scream as loud as you can... if by any chance that a shit crawls its way back up through the sewage system and tells you that you are correct... then drop me a line... otherwise keep your shitty comments to yourselves... 'cause really I don't give a shit what you think! Any others that think you may be interested in this project... give me a shout.
I would like to hear from the fans and the people that would support this kind of project.

"And by the way... NO — you won't discourage me from this idea... because it is something I've thought about for a few years now, and I know several fans out there would really be into something like this!

"MANTAS/DEATH is an integral and essential part of 'death metal' history and it's an honor for me to have been a part of that history. And I feel this would be a good way to teach those ignorant of those early death metal days some of that history."
