WARRANT Frontman: 'I Feel Very Fortunate To Be In This Band'

WARRANT frontman Jaime St. James (BLACK 'N BLUE) spoke to MyWestTexas.com ahead of the band's appearance in Odessa, RX next Wednesday.

"They can expect a really strong rock 'n' roll show that stems from the '80s so it's '80s-style rock 'n' roll," St. James said about the upcoming concert. "If that's what they're looking for, that's exactly what they get. It's never a bore, and it's lots of fun. People will most likely hear quite a few songs they are familiar with even if they are not sure they are from WARRANT."

St. James, who replaced Jani Lane, is the only new WARRANT member on stage. Erik Turner, Joey Allen, Jerry Dixon and Steven Sweet are all original members of the '80s hair band.

"I've known the WARRANT guys for years," said St. James. "Their singer quit. They gave me a call."

The audition was "just a blast, a lot of fun," St. James said. "The music's great, and we're using the opportunity (touring has given them) to do a new recording right now called 'Born Again'. And it's straight ahead rock 'n' roll. We all get along well, and we sound great."

St. James, who is from Portland, Oregon, began playing music when he was 14.

"I had an old Stellar guitar, acoustic," St. James recalled. "I forced my dad to buy me a drum kit, and I made my first microphone out of a telephone. The part you talk into, I wired to a stand and sang through it. I duct taped it to a music stand and stuck it between my legs as a drummer and began yelling into it. To put it simply, I was hell bent to play music, it didn't matter what it took."

The members of WARRANT are "actually thrilled to death to be playing right now," St. James said. "The band is probably better that its been in a long time. We're out there playing '80s style rock 'n' roll. I personally feel very fortunate to be in this band with four other great guys who are as dedicated and determined to do this after all these years."

As previously reported, WARRANT entered the studio in February with producer/engineer Pat Regan (KISS, TED NUGENT, DEEP PURPLE, MR. BIG and L.A. GUNS) to begin recording the new album, "Born Again", which is said to contain "the classic hard-rockin' WARRANT sound that we all want to hear. ('Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich' and 'Cherry Pie' with a new twist)."
