Watch: GEEZER BUTLER Joins JACK BLACK's BLACK SABBATH Cover Band For 'War Pigs' At TOM MORELLO's 'Power To The People' Festival

October 4, 2026

BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler joined JACK SABBATH, the BLACK SABBATH tribute act fronted by Jack Black, on stage Saturday night (October 3) at Tom Morello's Power To The People festival at Columbia, Maryland's Merriweather Post Pavilion to perform the SABBATH classic "War Pigs".

Black and his band — featuring Morello's son Roman on guitar, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian's son Revel on bass, teenage Japanese drummer Yoyoka Soma and keyboardist Hugo Weiss — opened their three-song set with Ozzy Osbourne's "Mr. Crowley" and SABBATH's "The Wizard" before Butler came up for the aforementioned "War Pigs".

Black — who is one half of the music duo TENACIOUS D with Kyle Gass — and Roman Morello previously performed "Mr. Crowley" in October 2023 as part of 100th-birthday celebrations for Tom Morello's mother Mary Morello. Jack's backing group that day featured Roman on guitar, Yoyoka, Roya Feiz on bass and Hugo Weiss on keyboards.

At last year's "Back To The Beginning" event, Jack sang his version of "Mr. Crowley" in a pre-taped music video featuring Roman Morello and Revel Ian.

Jack has said in an interview that hearing Ozzy's music for the first time was a life-changing moment for him. "I went to this record store, and I was going to get the new JOURNEY album," he recalled to George Lopez. "I was ten years old or something, and there was this kid who was 14, and he said, 'No, man. You don't want that. Get this,' and he showed me Ozzy Osbourne's 'Blizzard Of Ozz'…It just changed my whole brain, the passion and the darkness and the evil of the music."

On TENACIOUS D's first album, Black included the song "Dio" as a love letter to Ronnie James Dio, who replaced Osbourne in BLACK SABBATH. TENACIOUS D was also featured in DIO's video for the song "Push". In addition, Ronnie appeared in Black and Gass's rock comedy "Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny".

When Ozzy was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist in 2024, Black delivered a speech in which he said about the SABBATH singer: "This motherfucker invented heavy metal, along with Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and the immortal Tony Iommi, the darkest, heaviest shit the world had ever heard. He invented a genre, then had the greatest second-act comeback in rock history."
