Watch: SOUNDGARDEN Performs With TAYLOR MOMSEN And MIKE MCCREADY During Halftime Of SEATTLE SEAHAWKS Season Opener

SOUNDGARDEN's three surviving members reunited to play halftime of the Seattle Seahawks' season opener on Wednesday, September 9 against the New England Patriots at Seattle's Lumen Field. Guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd were joined by guest vocalist, THE PRETTY RECKLESS frontwoman Taylor Momsen in place of late SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell. The medley of the SOUNDGARDEN songs "Outshined" and "Spoonman" also featured an appearance by PEARL JAM's Mike McCready. McCready also performed a Jimi Hendrix-inspired version of the U.S. national anthem right before the game.

Speaking about the national anthem performance in an interview for the Seahawks' official web site, McCready said: "It's way scary in a way, because I want to do it right and I don't want to mess it up, so that's going through my head every time. I've done it a bunch of times; I just want to do it how I do it, and hopefully it means something, and I do it right, so there's pressure there."

Momsen, who has long cited SOUNDGARDEN and the late Chris Cornell as her musical heroes, and McCready previously Cameron, Thayil and Shepherd, for a performance of the band's classic song "Rusty Cage" at last year's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in November 2025 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The event also featured Brandi Carlile leading a rendition of "Black Hole Sun" (with Momsen on backing vocals),and Chris's daughter Toni Cornell singing "Fell On Black Days" accompanied by HEART's Nancy Wilson.

Thayil, Cameron, Cornell and Shepherd were included in SOUNDGARDEN's induction, as was original bassist Hiro Yamamoto, who was with SOUNDGARDEN from 1984 to 1989 and played on the band's first two EPs and first two albums.

Thayil and Cameron previously guested on THE PRETTY RECKLESS's 2021 album "Death By Rock And Roll", contributing to the track "Only Love Can Save Me Now".

Thayil, Cameron and Shepherd are working on a new SOUNDGARDEN album featuring previously unreleased recordings they made with Chris Cornell before the singer's 2017 death. Cameron, Thayil and Shepherd are collaborating with producer Terry Date, who previously helmed SOUNDGARDEN's "Louder Than Love" (1989) and "Badmotorfinger" (1991) LPs, with the mixing sessions currently taking place with Joe Barresi, a producer, engineer and mixer who as previously worked with AVENGED SEVENFOLD, VOLBEAT, SLIPKNOT, MONSTER MAGNET, BAD RELIGION and many, many other big rock acts.

In 2010, SOUNDGARDEN reunited for new tour and released a new album, "King Animal", on November 13, 2012. The band effectively split up again following Cornell's death in May 2017.
