What Drives COREY TAYLOR?

July 11, 2017

Festival promoters Danny Wimmer Presents (DWP) recently sat down with Corey Taylor from SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR to see what drives him. He said (see video below): "What fucking doesn't drive me, to be honest. It's a lot of things, obviously. It's my passion for what I do. It's my love for music and the way that it makes me feel. It's the demons that I have from growing up, fighting off every horrible thing that I went through. It's the love of the mob, the love of crowd, the reaction to the crowd, that need to feel them. It's everything. It's that need in me to create, it's that need in me to explain, it's that need in me to reach out, react, empathize and have people reciprocate that feeling to understand it, to relate, so you don't feel as alone."

He continued: "This whole word is full of lonely people, and the only time we really feel connected is [through] big events, whether it's bad or good. So for me, if I can create those big events so people connect, not only with me but with each other, that's what it's about. I know that probably sounds fairly pretentious, but fuck you! That's what this is about, man. It's about sharing your soul and having the courage to do it."

Taylor added: "So what drives me? It's everything. And it hasn't stopped yet. So I don't even know how far I'm gonna take this. But as long as I'm driven, I'll be here."

STONE SOUR's new album, "Hydrograd", rocketed on to the charts this week, debuting at No. 1 on three Billboard charts: Top Current Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums. "Hydrograd" also debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, marking the band’s fifth consecutive Top 10 debut on that chart. Furthermore, "Hydrograd" debuted at No. 5 in the U.K. (the band's highest debut ever in that country),No. 2 in Australia (highest debut ever),and was Top 5 in Germany, Japan and Switzerland.

Also this week, "Hydrograd"'s lead single, "Song #3", spends a fourth straight week at No. 1 at Active Rock Radio, marking the Grammy-nominated band's fourth No. 1 single and eighth Top 5 single at the format. "Song #3"'s Ryan Valdez-directed video has received over three million views on the band’s official YouTube channel while garnering 4.7 million streams on Spotify, including placement on Rock This and Rock Hard playlists.

STONE SOUR is currently on an epic summer trek alongside fellow Roadrunner recording group KORN. Dubbed "The Serenity Of Summer Tour", the trek is set to continue through early August.
