WITHIN THE RUINS: More Footage From The Studio Posted Online

March 21, 2011

Behind-the-scenes footage from the pre-production sessions for the forthcoming seven-inch EP, "Omen", from the Westfield, Massachusetts quintet WITHIN THE RUINS can be viewed below. Due in May via Victory Records, the release will feature two new songs as well as cover versions of METALLICA's "Fight Fire With Fire" and KANSAS' "Carry On My Wayward Son". The EP was recorded at Dreadcore Studios in Michigan with Joshua Wickman, the producer of the band's last full-length CD, "Invade".

Guitarist Joe Cocchi explains the cover choices: "Of course, METALLICA was up there on the list, and after spending some time going through their discography we thought 'Fight Fire With Fire' would suit us best. It's a fun song, fast as fuck, and a bit challenging. It's also not as popular as a lot of their other songs. We wanted to choose a METALLICA song that no one's really done before. The KANSAS song was a whole different story, as you can imagine. I don't think it's something that anyone would expect us to do, which is why we chose it. We spent a good amount of time arranging the song and attempting to add some new elements to it without completely 'butchering' it. It's definitely going to be a challenge for us, but that's the point after all. We're really excited about this project."

WITHIN THE RUINS is currently on the road as part of the Names Mean Nothing Tour alongside CARNIFEX, OCEANO, and THE TONY DANZA TAPDANCE EXTRAVAGANZA.

WITHIN THE RUINS has mastered the technique of bringing breakdowns, riffs, tempo and a dash of personality together in order to form one cohesive entity. They describe their sound as "loud, energetic, interesting and fresh" and cite bands like METALLICA and AS I LAY DYING as their early influences.

It would be easy to attribute their unique sound to the countless hours WITHIN THE RUINS dedicates to practicing each week. In order to perfect their technical styles, the members practice every day. "You do it long enough and you're going to see results," noted founding member and guitarist Joe Cocchi. "We constantly try to take our music to the next level, challenging ourselves as well as the listener."

WITHIN THE RUINS' second full-length album, "Invade", was released last August via Victory Records.
