ZAKK WYLDE Understands Why Some Artists Don't Believe In Making Full-Length Albums Anymore

In a new interview with Scott Davidson of Chicago's Rebel Radio, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY frontman and longtime Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde weighed in on MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx's recent comment that doesn't "believe in making full-length records anymore". Zakk said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I get it. But I'm just saying if you end up recording 10 songs, you just release all 10 over a length of time. But I know what Nikki's saying. 'Cause it's different than like when we made [Ozzy Osbourne's] 'No More Tears'. It's just, like, where you would put your single out, and then [the] 'No More Tears' [title track] is out there, and then all of a sudden the album gets released and then you release a couple more songs off the album. But, yeah, it's definitely different."

Zakk continued: "Even what Ozz would always say, from the beginning of BLACK SABBATH, the way things were done then, 'cause he was just, like, 'Zakk, we would make a record, tour for a couple months, and then be back right in the studio again knocking out another album.' Which is kind of insane. I mean, when you look at SABBATH back then, it was just, like, you were playing 'Under The Sun', that was '72. That's 'Vol. 4'. Their first album came out in '70. Their second album came out, 'Paranoid' came out in '70. Their third album, 'Master Of Reality', came out in '71. 'Vol. 4' came out in '72. Then, what was it? '74 was 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'. Then 1975 was 'Sabotage'. That's like six albums within five years. I mean, that's insane. And they were doing shows in between and everything like that. But they weren't touring — like now, you put an album out, you could literally tour for two years on one record. Which I don't mind either, just because it gives everyone a chance to digest the album."

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's latest album, "Engines Of Demolition", was released in March via MNRK Heavy. The follow-up to 2021's "Doom Crew Inc." contains 15 tracks, including the four previously released singles, "Name In Blood", "Broken And Blind", "The Gallows" and "Lord Humungus", as well as a tune titled "Ozzy's Song", which is a tribute to the BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist/vocalist's longtime bandmate, the iconic BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne.

Wylde formed BLACK LABEL SOCIETY in 1998 and has kept the band busy in between touring and recording with Ozzy Osbourne, whose backing group he first joined nearly four decades ago.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's "Order Of The Black" (2010) and "Catacombs Of The Black Vatican" (2014) both broke into the top five on the hard rock album charts.

Since first joining Ozzy, Zakk had played on all of the BLACK SABBATH singer's solo albums except for 2020's "Ordinary Man", including such classic efforts as "No More Tears" (1991),"Ozzmosis" (1995) and "Black Rain" (2007).
