PRESIDENT's "Blood of Your Empire" doesn't sound like a debut album from a band still trying to find itself, it sounds like a group that already knows exactly who they are and what they want. The masked U.K. collective blends metalcore with electronica in a way that feels natural rather than stitched together. Heavy riffs crash into electronic beats, distorted sounds bend and shift and cinematic atmosphere hangs over the whole thing. "Blood of Your Empire" is built on contrast, and PRESIDENT knows exactly how to make those contrasts work.

The album explores belief, mortality, humanity and faith, but it doesn't figure everything out. It's more contemplative. That's one of its strongest qualities. There is tension running through these songs, and PRESIDENT seems perfectly comfortable delivering those deep themes amid a magical soundscape.

"dark heaven" is the track that really gets under your skin. The song opens with a seasick kind of distortion before dropping into a buoyant, 808-driven beat. It's an odd combination on paper, but that's part of what makes it work. PRESIDENT keeps pulling the song in different directions without losing its center. Then comes the pre-chorus command to "Gather 'round children, sing Hallelujah," before a glitchy, detuned riff takes over. It's heavy, but not simply because of the riffs. "dark heaven" has weight because of what it's wrestling with, which is questioning the way righteousness can sometimes become tangled up with greed, violence and power.

"Doom Loop" takes a different route while still fitting comfortably into the world of "Blood of Your Empire". The song deals with time and the strange way people use it, waste it and fear it, often realizing what a moment meant only after it has already passed. Then there are emotive tracks such as "Angel Wings" and "Mercy". Together, they gave listeners a glimpse of PRESIDENT's willingness to move between heaviness, electronics and atmosphere without getting trapped in just one.

That might be the biggest strength of "Blood of Your Empire". PRESIDENT doesn't present the same song over and over again, the band mixes genres and truly creates its own sound. Sure, one could say they fit in the same lane as SLEEP TOKEN or BAD OMENS, but PRESIDENT is really forging their own path. "Blood of Your Empire" is dark, restless and deeply atmospheric, and it works. It should get listeners pumped for the next chapter of this budding band.
