NICKELBACK are turning up the volume with "Everything Under the Sun", their 11th studio album. The Canadian rock veterans gave fans a taste of what to expect with some singles, and those tracks were a good preview of the album, balancing the explosive guitar work and arena-ready energy they've become known for with a more emotional sound.
Listening to the record, the album's lead single, "Rattle the Cage" featuring John 5, makes a powerful first impression. Driven by blistering guitars, pounding riffs and an unmistakably massive rock sound, the track showcases the band's ability to deliver the kind of hard-hitting music that feels right at home on the biggest stages. The song's success at Active Rock radio, where it reached No. 1 in the U.S., also shows that NICKELBACK's signature sound continues to resonate with listeners. But listening to "Everything Under the Sun", this album isn't all about heavy riffs and high-energy rock anthems. Case in point, "Leave Me Behind" and "Make Me Love You", reveal a more sensitive approach that gives the record real emotional depth.
Elsewhere, "Chasin' Famous" is a rocking, fun, fist-pumping, hard rock anthem. It's choppy, wild, carefree and has Chad Kroeger singing about everybody wanting to be famous. It's perfect for the influencer-heavy era. "Simple Song" is a pop-friendly song with tuneful vocals and a very melodic vibe. It also has a country swing to it, which isn't totally new for NICKELBACK. Listening further, "Bottled Dream" is a slow-moving, slow-burning, yearning rock anthem that makes for a perfect listen on a cool fall night.
NICKELBACK have always walked the fine line between guys you wouldn't want to introduce to your mom to verses a band of sensitive, sweet members. That's part of their charm, and it continues here. That contrast could be one of the best aspects of "Everything Under the Sun". NICKELBACK have spent more than two decades building a catalog filled with recognizable rock songs, and their latest material suggests they're continuing to explore the emotional range that has helped their music connect with audiences across generations.
"Everything Under the Sun" follows 2022's "Get Rollin'". They've pushed nearly 65 million albums worldwide and billions of streams across digital platforms, so they've built a lasting connection with fans. They've sometimes been poked fun at for being perhaps too mainstream, but there's no denying that there are lots of NICKELBACK fans out there who love each and every album. With "Everything Under the Sun", fans are getting to hear those different sides of NICKELBACK: the bad boy rockers and sensitive puppies. Having the appeal of both is simply part of their charm.
