IRON MAIDEN Cut Short New York Set After Fan Drops Beer On Soundboard

January 25, 2004

IRON MAIDEN were forced to cut short their headlining set Saturday night (Jan. 24) at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City after a fan reportedly dropped a beer on the soundboard, causing it to malfunction.

According to a posting on IRON MAIDEN's official message board from a fan calling himself "Fourknaz", "[IRON MAIDEN] closed [the regular set] with 'Iron Maiden' and you could actually hear one of the speakers fizzle out. It was a bit awkward and honestly I thought I blew an eardrum. They ended with a thank you and left the stage, but I knew something was wrong. A ruckus was going on down by the soundboard and I thought a speaker blew... I was right.

"[Singer] Bruce [Dickinson] came back on and told the crowd some asshole dropped a beer on the soundboard and they were working to fix it. The crowd was patient and Bruce worked the crowd with his humor and some jokes here and there. About 5 minutes later Bruce came on and apologized to the crowd saying the board was trashed and the show was over. No 'Journeyman', no 'Beast' or 'Hills'.... The crowd was actually cordial and applauded the band which I'm glad they did. Then a few fights broke out on the floor and I hightailed it out of there before the place burned down..."
