Boston's DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR has been touring so non-stop these past few years that it is hard to believe that "Count Me In" is their first full-length album for Bridge Nine. Following the reissue of "Friends Family Forever", the new album sounds like a band that has honed its classic hardcore style from touring the world and living the life. Relentlessly punishing and fueled by the spirit of the hardcore and punk legends, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR hasn't lost a step here.

Much like what made "Family Friends Forever" so memorable, "Count Me In" succeeds because of songs that are every bit as violent as TERROR and that ensure that you come away remembering individual tracks. Songs such as "Curl Up and Die", "Infected", "Break Through it All", and the title track are filled with sing-along shouts, a palpable punk spirit (listen to the hidden cover of COCK SPARRER's "England Belongs to Me") and choruses that are awfully darn catchy. It is on a song like "Behind Your Eyes" that the band demonstrates its skill at making a hardcore arrangement as gripping as possible, mixing a tight delivery with cinderblock-heavy riffs and skillful vocal changeups. Rather than the willy-nilly placement of breakdowns, the group knows exactly when to slow it down for maximum effect. Slivers of thrash are heard periodically as well; just listen to the opening riff on "F*** it All". Finally, Jim Siegel's production is rock solid and clear, giving the album a tough guitar tone and rumbling bass sound. There is a lot of chunk and punch on this one.

It is bands like DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR that makes one forget just how much hardcore has been bastardized over the years. This is how hardcore is supposed to sound and is guaranteed to please any fan of the true stuff. Don't look for the boys to be applying eyeliner any time soon.
