A PERFECT CIRCLE Guitarist Talks Possible New Album (Audio)

Chuck Armstrong, Gotham Radio of FreeGotham.com, recently conducted an interview Billy Howerdel of ASHES DIVIDE and A PERFECT CIRCLE. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

On whether we will we hear new A PERFECT CIRCLE music on the upcoming tour:

"We are gonna hear at least a song, I would say. One of them is very, very close to being done. And from there, things could come together once we get on the road and start hashing through some of the other ideas and they could quickly become a song and find their way onto the live stage."

On whether that means a new A PERFECT CIRCLE album is in the works:

"[It is] in the works, but not for this summer. I think the idea was to try and get the juices flowing a bit and get back into [A PERFECT CIRCLE] mode a bit and go from there. See what happens in the New Year. We have intentions of recording new material."

On the current status of his other band, ASHES DIVIDE:

"I'm writing for both bands. I'm just writing new music. I just kind of tag it under Billy Howerdel, you know, and where it falls is where it falls. I've got a bunch of new ideas that I usually don't let come fully together until the end. I try to leave it loose while I'm writing it. Maynard [Keenan, A PERFECT CIRCLE/TOOL singer] showed interest in a couple, so I started firming them up."

On one of his fondest memories:

"Maynard and I played 'Bohemian Rhapsody' with the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra and a choir of I believe over a hundred people. It was just Maynard and I, the choir and the orchestra."

On taking a break from writing:

"I kind of did for the past few years. I'd say the last three years have been the least I've written ever, since I started playing the guitar. I'm still not writing the way I used to...I wind up writing songs on my phone."

On the difference between ASHES DIVIDE and A PERFECT CIRCLE:

"[ASHES DIVIDE] is more technical with [A PERFECT CIRCLE] and with ASHES it's much more emotional and rational and kind of more, just emotional effort goes into that show for me."

Interview (audio):

A PERFECT CIRCLE hit theaters in five cities last November, with each city save one getting a three-night stand. The band played each of its three studio albums "Mer De Noms", "Thirteenth Step" and "eMOTIVe" on a different night.

The 2010-2011 lineup of A PERFECT CIRCLE includes singer Maynard James Keenan, Howerdel, drummer Josh Freese, former SMASHING PUMPKINS guitarist James Iha and bassist Matt McJunkins.

A PERFECT CIRCLE currently does not have a record deal.
