ANTHRAX Apologizes For Abbreviated 'Red Bull Snowscrapers' Performance

February 6, 2009

The members of ANTHRAX have released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding their abbreviated performance last night (Thursday, February 5) at the "Red Bull Snowscrapers" snowboarding competition at the East River Park in New York City:

"We want to apologize to our fans who came out to the Red Bull event last night in the hellish cold to see us play. Originally were supposed to go on just before 9:00 p.m. and play for 45 minutes. One of the snowboarding events ran very late, which caused us to delay the start of our set. That, and a curfew we were not informed about until 9:30, snowballed into an unfortunate situation that was beyond our control. As we were walking to the stage, we were instructed to cut our set to three songs, and no one was more surprised than us when they cut the PA before we could finish the third song. We are particularly mortified that this happened when our good friend Chuck D [of PUBLIC ENEMY] had just taken the stage for 'Bring the Noise'. We extend our apologies to him.

"Nothing like this has ever happened to ANTHRAX before, and we regret that it happened last night. Thank you to those who came out to support, and once again, our sincere apologies."

Video footage of ANTHRAX performing "Madhouse" and "Bring The Noise" (featuring Chuck D) last night can be viewed below (clip uploaded by "unARTigNYC").

Sixteen pro snowboarders, including Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, competed for a $100,000 purse with a $50,000 first prize at the event, which featured a 90-foot-tall (27-meter) ramp and an 80-foot-long landing area at FDR Drive and Houston Street in New York City.

"Red Bull Snowscrapers" was the third major snowboarding competition in New York City.

ANTHRAX will release "Worship Music", the band's first new studio album in six years, in June on Megaforce Records. The CD marks the studio debut of new singer Dan Nelson who joins longtime members Scott Ian (rhythm guitar),Frank Bello (bass),Charlie Benante (drums),and Rob Caggiano (lead guitar).
