TESTAMENT vocalist Chuck Billy appears to be in good spirits after having been diagnosed with cancer and is apparently almost certain to return to form in a relatively quick fashion. According to people that have spoken to him in the last few days, he is said to be lining up a side project with TESTAMENT bassist Steve DiGiorgio (who is also a member of ICED EARTH and CONTROL DENIED) that he has described as musically “brutal”. Meanwhile, Chuck himself has confirmed the plans for former TESTAMENT drummer John Tempesta (i.e. ROB ZOMBIE) to get involved in the recording of the upcoming collection of re-workings of early original compositions, entitled First Strike Is Deadly, which is still on course for a late summer release.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that vocalist Morgan Thorn has quit VICIOUS RUMORS on the eve of their European tour with RAGE, which is set to begin on April 18th in Ludwigsburg, Germany. More information on this when it becomes available.

CRADLE OF FILTH have pushed up the release of their Bitter Suites To Succubi EP—the group's first release through their own AbraCadaver imprint—to May 22nd. Rob Halford's recent appearance on KNAC.com shed some light on HALFORD's upcoming recording and touring plans. According to the singer, the track 'Screaming in the Dark” on the band's current Live Insurrection release “is a little taste of where we want to go with the next record. We are looking to make the next CD more fierce and intense”. He also stated that the next HALFORD studio CD “will be more lyrically driven. I have been writing things filled with illusion and fantasy tempered with reality'. Rob also rejected any suggestions that HALFORD may open a few gigs on the upcoming Extreme Steel tour (headlined by PANTERA),stating simply that “I was waiting for a call that never came'. According to Halford, a chance exists that the sophomore HALFORD outing will appear before the end of the year, “although many things can change between now and then. Hey, it may even be done sooner than that. You can never tell with the rock'n'roll business'. Rob also stated that 'My love for PRIEST hasn't diminished and never will…Sometimes I wake up at four in the morning and I think to myself. God, I wish I was in PRIEST. Then I think.... no..no..no....THIS is where I need to be.'

In somewhat related news, it appears that former JUDAS PRIEST frontman Al Atkins has rejoined forces with former PRIEST drummer Dave Holland in a new project, with plans to release an album before the end of the year or in early 2002.

Former RAINBOW vocalist Doogie White recently commented on his appearance on the NOSTRADAMUS album, guitarist Nikolo Kotzev's rock opera about the famous Michel de Nostredame, which also features guest stints from such vocalist heavyweights as Glenn Hughes (ex-DEEP PURPLE / BLACK SABBATH),Joe Lynn Turner (ex-RAINBOW / YNGWIE MALMSTEEN),Goran Edmund (GLORY / ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN),Jorn Lande (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN),Alannah Myles and Sass Jordan. According to White, 'Nik called me a while back and asked if I would be interested in writing and singing on the album. He was very thorough with the information he sent me. I had books and scripts to read and videos to watch so I could learn about this prophet. I sing the part of the narrator. Of course Glenn [Hughes] had been in the week before me and did all his vocals in 4 hours, had a cup of tea and left.'

...

'I spent five days doing lead and all the backing vocals on the songs I had written on. There were some very deep harmonies that I could not hit with any real conviction. So Nik suggested that he sang them and I engineered. That was a laugh in itself as I made him sing them again and again. A petty torment I extracted from him in revenge for him doing the same to me.'

...

'I was pleased with the results at the time but have yet to hear the finished article. I heard what Goran had done and was blown away. So I knew I had to make my performances a bit special. I'm looking forward to getting my copy of the album and hope that it's a great success for Nik.'

DOG EAT DOG have reportedly started recording a demo of new material for an unspecified major label at Central Studios in Washington D.C. with producer Italric (who produced DOG EAT DOG's 1999 release Amped). The only known title so far is “Weekender”, which is being described as a “real party song” by bassist Dave Neabore. No word yet on when we can expect to see a new album from DED, but chances are that it won't be before late 2001 at the earliest.

The French DREAM THEATER official fan club, Your Majesty, will hold its 2nd convention on Saturday, May 19th, at Elysee Montmartre in Paris. DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy will take a break during the recording sessions of the new album to attend the convention. According to an official press release from Your Majesty, the event will take place between 4 PM and 10:30 PM, and it will consist of&nbsp a meet-and-greet with Mike and the presentation of many stands with collectibles and memorabilias, including a special stand with the new John Petrucci signature guitar. There will also be an exclusive headlining concert by the “Swedish prog metal geniuses” PAIN OF SALVATION and the “mighty” French prog metal band REGENCY as opener. Of course, it is very likely that Portnoy himself will end up on stage at the end of the night for an impromptu jam, but this remains to be seen. To attend the convention in the afternoon, you must be a current subscriber of any of the DREAM THEATER international fan clubs. However, the concert in the evening is open to everyone.
