In the upcoming installment of METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett's monthly column in Guitar World magazine called The Sound and the Fury, he addresses the musical direction of the group's forthcoming studio album and the now-infamous Playboy article. According to Kirk, the band is different now than they were when they did the aforementioned interview. 'We're not like that anymore we've worked through all our shit, we're a lot closer, and it's a really good time to be in METALLICA right now,' Hammett writes. 'In fact, it feels better to be in this band now than it did in the Nineties.'

...

As for the group's next album, Kirk says that first he, James and Lars will write all the music, then they will find a bass player to record the bass parts. 'We're just about to start work on the writing stages of the next album, and we're just going to do it as a three-piece. Then, once we've got it all together and we feel like we need a bass player, that's when we'll start looking.'

...

Regarding the recording process, Kirk reveals that 'We're probably not going to record in a studio this time around either. We're tired of the atmosphere and traffic, and we're tired of the traditional approach. So we're going to spend some time researching how to do it differently. We want to find an approach we're all comfortable with and can work in without distractions. And, when we find it, I think it'll definitely change the way the new album's going to sound.'

...

Kirk also goes into saying that the new album will not sound like 'No Leaf Clover' and 'Human' (from the S&ampM album),because those songs were written around Load and Reload. Instead, he says, it will likely sound more like the track 'I Disappear' off the Mission Impossible II soundtrack.

MARILYN MANSON completed filming of his latest video, for 'The Nobodies', last week, although he was unsure whether footage from the controversial MTV program Jackass would appear in the video as planned. The clip centers around a group of children who seek help from MANSON after being punished by nuns for watching the program, in which the host undertakes dangerous and often reckless stunts. The show has come under fire in recent weeks from US Senator Joe Lieberman and other cultural watchdogs because of several alleged copycat incidents in which young boys were severely burned or injured trying to re-enact stunts from the show. In other MANSON news, he plans to release his first novel, titled Holy Wood, after his recent album, this fall, with a coffee table art book to accompany it. MANSON is also planning his first DVD release for the fall, and may act in a movie directed by cult Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo, The Holy Mountain).

ICED EARTH are apparently once again looking for a bassist to complete the group's line-up following Steve DiGiorgio's inability to commit to joining the band on the touring front, which was apparently one of the stipulations for the bassist becoming a member of ICED EARTH. Prior to the start of the group's fall tour, ICED EARTH will reportedly hit the studio to record a CD's worth of cover songs, including those by AC/DC, JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH, KISS and IRON MAIDEN for a multi-disc box set commemorating the history of the band. Included in the package will be Jim Morris remixes of the first three CDs, with redone artwork and liner notes, period photos, as well as the Enter The Realm demo pressed on CD. The box set is apparently part of the arrangement the band struck with Century Media Records to allow them to take part of their back catalog with them when their contract with the company runs out after the release of the new album, entitled Horror Show, which has now been pushed back to June 25th. ICED EARTH are said to be in serious negotiations with Sanctuary Records for the release of the group's future recordings, but as usual, nothing is definite, and the band will entertain other offers before making a decision as to where to go.

GRAVITY KILLS have posted an explanation on their official web site regarding the reasons for the cancellation of the group's scheduled show at the Banana Joe's club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 27th. Here is the message in its entirety:

...

'GRAVITY KILLS officially cancelled the show on Thursday the 26th. However, the tour management company neglected to call the club. This is why the club had no idea what was going on — they were not informed.

...

'The reason behind this was poor logistics in the booking of the mini-tour, and the fact that Banana Joe's was non-cooperative in letting GK start their set early in the evening. As a matter of fact, they pushed the start time back several times. GRAVITY KILLS was due in Massachusetts early in the afternoon on Saturday April 28th for a big show on the campus of Bridgewater College — a 12-hour drive from Pittsburgh. After confirming that they would not have been able to play early in Pittsburgh, GRAVITY KILLS decided to cancel the Pittsburgh show in favor of the much larger Bridgewater show.

...

'The confusion occured when the tour management company neglected to cancel the show.

...

'GRAVITY KILLS apologizes for any confusion this caused. They have always prided themselves on being close to their fans and that something like this could happen is very upsetting to the band. While nothing can make up for time or money lost, the band apologizes and hopes that this unfortunate situation will not deter any fans from continuing to support GRAVITY KILLS.'

The release of H.I.M.'s much-anticipated debut single, 'Pretending', from the group's forthcoming, as-yet-untitled third album has apparently once again been pushed back, this time to July 2nd.
