AUDIOSLAVE Bassist Says Cuba Has Continuing Problems

Launch Radio Networks reports: Cuba was hit hard by Hurricane Wilma earlier this week, adding to the country's longstanding economic woes. But poverty and difficult living conditions have been a problem since the U.S. first blockaded the Communist island over 40 years ago. AUDIOSLAVE bassist Tim Commerford, whose band visited the country in May, told Launch that the issue isn't likely to go away. "It's beautiful. It's a beautiful island," he said. "It had beautiful buildings and they're still there and they're still beautiful, but post-blockade, there's not a whole lot of construction supplies being shipped in there to Cuba. So there's not, to be able to work on buildings and stuff is gonna be hard."

Hurricane Wilma's destructive force was also felt heavily in Cancun, Mexico and much of southern Florida.

AUDIOSLAVE's trip to Cuba, where it became the first American rock band to play a concert there, is documented on the band's recently released "Live In Cuba" DVD.

The band plays tonight (Wednesday, October 26) in Fairfax, Virginia.
