AVENGED SEVENFOLD To 'Start Really Getting Into The Writing Of A Possible New Record' In September Or October
May 21, 2018At this past weekend's Rock On The Range festival, AVENGED SEVENFOLD bassist Johnny Christ told Ronni Hunter of the WRKZ 99.7 The Blitz radio station that the band will likely start working on the follow-up to 2016's "The Stage" album this fall. "Right now, it's probaby a little bit more of getting our own ideas and just writing by ourselves in our studios and stuff at home," Johnny said about AVENGED's creative process (see video below). "And then we'll probably throw all of those ideas away when we come up with what kind of idea we're gonna do. But, yeah, right now we're excited for the rest of this summer tour, and then we plan on pretty much hitting the ground running as soon as we get back and finish this tour in September. Probably September or October, we'll start really getting into the writing of a possible new record. And it'll be exciting. Not sure what it'll be."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD frontman M. Shadows revealed in March that the band's legal battle with its former label, Warner Bros. Records, was not yet resolved. He also said that the group wanted to settle the matter before it began work on a new LP.
Warner Bros. sued AVENGED SEVENFOLD in late 2015 after the band left the label by citing the California Labor Code's "seven-year rule."
The rule allows for parties to exit contracts after seven years if certain unfavorable conditions exist. But a provision in the rule allows labels to collect money that would have been made on undelivered albums.
Warner Bros. is seeking damages based on the fact that AVENGED SEVENFOLD had one album left on its contract, while the band has argued that extensive turnover in the label's staff led to an unsatisfactory working relationship.
The band has since moved on to Capitol, which issued "The Stage" as a surprise release in October 2016.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD will tour North America this summer with PROPHETS OF RAGE and THREE DAYS GRACE.
