Cancer Benefit For Minnesota Rock/Metal Music Icon To Be Held Next Month
November 28, 2006Earl Root has been a staple of the rock and metal community in Minnesota for over twenty years. He is most known as the once owner of Root Cellar Records, which recently closed last year as well as the DJ of KFAI's "Root of All Evil" metal music show on Saturday nights. He also owns a metal record label Root of All Evil and is the guitarist for AESMA DAEVA and ON THE ROCKS in addition to the many musical endeavors he has been a part of for many years.
Six years ago, Earl was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma regenerative, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Earl has been in and out of chemotherapy and radiation treatments over the years, some less or more intrusive than others.
In November 2006, Earl once again began extensive chemotherapy, to be followed by a bone marrow transplant, in the hopes of revitalizing his immune system. As you can guess, the bills will once again start adding up. Health insurance will extend through most of the health care expenses but not all of them.
In an effort to help Earl as he has helped numerous musicians and music lovers over the years, friends of his will be hosting a "Root for Earl" benefit on December 9 at Station 4 in St. Paul. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the run of nine bands begins at 3:30 p.m. Cover is $10 and there will be many prizes to win donated by such companies as Napalm Records, The End Records, Relapse Records, Nuclear Blast Records, Sonic Cathedral, Cruz del Sur Music and bands such as USURPER and AGENT STEEL. Roller Girls have also pitched in some donations as well as Visual Addictions tattoo studio, and many more to come. In addition, the Lymphoma Research Foundation has agreed to have a presence and answer any questions in regards to Earl's type of cancer and how you might help! Another way people can help is to donate to the Earl Root Fund (www.earlrootfund.org). 100 percent of your donation will go towards survivorship of Earl Root.
