CARCASS Drummer DANIEL WILDING 'Would Love To' Record Follow-Up To 'Surgical Steel'

June 14, 2015

MikeJamesRockShow.com conducted an interview with drummer Daniel Wilding of reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS at the 2015 edition of the U.K.'s Download festival, which is being held this weekend in Donington Park. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked if there are plans for CARCASS to record a follow-up to 2013's "Surgical Steel" album, Wilding responded: "I mean, obviously, I'd love to, and Bill [Steer, guitar] is into it, and Jeff [Walker, bass/vocals] is into it, but it's just… it's just time, really, because, obviously, we're playing so much these days that we just wanna make the most of that first. And we don't wanna rush into another album after seventeen or eighteen years of no album. So, I think, the plan is just to, kind of, let it naturally take its course and see what happens. Obviously, I'd love to, so… Finger crossed. [Laughs] I really hope it happens, because I know… I mean, I don't write the stuff, but I know Bill and Jeff, they've got tons of ideas and all that stuff."

Wilding also spoke about the CARCASS's current lineup, which is completed by guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON).

"I've been in the band four and a half yeas now, and Ben, the other guitar player, he's been in three years, I guess, so we're all, kind of, extended family now," he said. "I think it's cool that the band is… 'Cause, as a fan, before I joined, it's just great to see… Firstly, it's great to see them playing again, but also it's great to be in the band, obviously."

"Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel", a collection of previously unreleased and hard-to-find tracks from CARCASS, sold around 1,840 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on the Billboard Hard Rock chart. All the songs on the EP were recorded during the "Surgical Steel" sessions, which was produced by Colin Richardson (NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, GOREFEST, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SINISTER, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, TESTAMENT).

"Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel" was made available on physical and digital formats via Nuclear Blast.

"Surgical Steel" sold around 8,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on September 16, 2013 in the U.K., September 13, 2013 in the rest of Europe and September 17, 2013 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.
