CHIMAIRA Guitarist Issues New Album Update
October 10, 2008Cleveland, Ohio's CHIMAIRA is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording its new CD with producer Ben Schigel. Mixing duties will be handled by Chris "Zeuss" Harris.
Commented guitarist Rob Arnold: "So we're finally at a point where all of the songs for this next record are written, and the four of us (me, Matt [DeVries; rhythm guitar], Andols [Herrick; drums], and Jim [LaMarca; bass]),can play them from start to finish. This is one of the first satisfying milestones in the album-creation process. From here things can only get better. The songs will each start taking on a completely different life once Mark [Hunter] starts applying his vocal ideas, and Chris [Spicuzza; keyboards, samples, backing vocals] begins making all of the new atmospheres for the songs to reside in.
"I like that the writing process has ended two weeks before we're scheduled to hit the studio… This gives me a chance to get a head start on writing solos and leads, rather than having to write them in the studio, because we took too much time. I'm sure that Mark and Chris welcome the extra time as well.
"I was very pleased and excited today as we jammed through the songs, because I heard Andols coming to life behind the kit. Before this week of practice, Andols took 8-10 days to really dissect the songs, write his fills, and tighten up. His hard work was music to my ears as he blew me away again and again with his power and creativity. I think that Andols lovers across the globe are going to love what he's doing on this one."
CHIMAIRA's as-yet-untitled effort will be released in North America on April 28, 2009 via Ferret Music. The band is looking for label to release the new albim in territories outside North America (the group is no longer signed to Nuclear Blast, which released "Resurrection" in Europe).
