COLISEUM Signs To RELAPSE RECORDS

December 18, 2006

Relapse Records has announced the signing of Louisville, Kentucky's COLISEUM.

According to a press release, COLISEUM is a powerhouse punk/hardcore outfit formed by long-time friends in the Louisville D.I.Y. hardcore scene who share a love for early British acts such as DISCHARGE, GBH, and MOTÖRHEAD. The young band has a rich touring history, having completed full tours with MUNICIPAL WASTE, LORDS, YOUNG WIDOWS, DOOMRIDERS, SAVIOURS and more this year alone along with their first-ever European tour. Additionally, COLISEUM recently completed its first headlining U.S. tour. Guitarist/vocalist Ryan Patterson (BLACK CROSS, ex-THE NATIONAL ACROBAT) posted upon the completion of this tour, "This was the first extended tour we've ever done without any other bands along with us, and it went great. We played with a ton of great bands, were treated like kings by so many awesome promoters and friends, experienced a lot of great things across the country, and listened to a never-ending stream of Longmont Potion Castle. Many thanks to everyone who made this such a memorable trip."

COLISEUM has begun writing for what will become their Relapse full-length debut and are scheduled to record in May 2007 with long-time friend and CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou in his God City studio. Patterson comments on the writing progress, "We have eight songs finished or in demo stages now and are shooting for around 16 when we enter the studio, so we can leave with a 10- or 12-song album and a few songs for splits, singles, etc. So far, most of the songs have shaped up to be about death or religion... That just seems to be the climate that prevails these days."

COLISEUM recently posted a rough unreleased demo track they recorded with Matt Bayles (MASTODON, ISIS, BOTCH, BURIED INSIDE) while on tour this fall via their MySpace page. More music and album information will be made available shortly.
