CRASH KELLY Comments On POISON, ALICE COOPER Shows
August 11, 2006Glam rock quartet CRASH KELLY — whose new album, the Gilby Clarke-produced "Electric Satisfaction", is now available — is in the midst of a series of high-profile gigs. Last week, the band performed a hometown show at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre alongside POISON and CINDERELLA before flying to America to play two shows with ALICE COOPER (including a gig at the Sturgis motorcycle rally).
"There was no better way to kick off the dog days of summer than to be on the same bill as two of my childhood favorites," frontman Sean Kelly says about the POISON/CINDERELLA show. "Despite blazing heat, we managed to rip out a couple of sets that highlighted the new material from 'Electric Satisfaction', and were pleased to find that the crowd was on board."
CRASH KELLY already toured Canada with ALICE COOPER earlier this year, but Kelly says the second go-round was even better. "Not even the Canadian dates we did with Alice could prepare us for the thrill of sharing the stage with him at two legendary venues. Sturgis saw us performing in front of a crowd of 20,000, and I'm pleased to report that we rose to the occasion. And to a kid growing up in small-town Ontario, Billings, Montana seems like the most exotic of locales, and playing the Shrine Auditorium felt like a true '70s-rock revival."
The group is now in Los Angeles, where CRASH KELLY recorded their new album. Kelly describes the city as the "spiritual home for the band in a lot of ways. It was the early '80s Sunset Strip scene that served as one of CRASH KELLY's primary influences. Coming back to the birthplace of 'Electric Satisfaction' is serving as inspiration for bringing these songs to life on the stage. We're looking forward to playing with L.A. GUNS in their hometown, rocking some legendary venues and also looking forward to highlighting some of the often overlooked other influences of the band with our appearance at the International Pop Overthrow. Wrapping it up at METAL SKOOL should prove to be a fitting cap for our latest rock 'n' roll fantasy."
In other news, CRASH KELLY was named "band of the day" by Spin magazine's web site earlier this week. The feature can be read at this location.
