DAVE GROHL Posts 32-Year-Old Letter He Wrote To Musical Hero
May 29, 2015According to The Pulse of Radio, FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl has posted a letter he wrote when he was just 14 years old to underground punk legend Ian MacKaye of the band FUGAZI. In the letter, Grohl asks MacKaye if he can connect Grohl with anyone who can help pursue his dream of playing rock music, adding his phone number and even the hours during which MacKaye can call him.
Grohl wrote on Twitter about the 32-year-old letter, "Look what my hero Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi) just found: a letter I wrote to him when I was 14! Haha!"
Grohl, who grew up in Virginia, has long cited the Washington D.C. punk rock scene as a formative influence on him.
His first professional band, SCREAM, emerged out of the D.C. scene.
FOO FIGHTERS released an EP called "Songs From The Laundry Room" last month for Record Store Day. The disc features early FOO FIGHTERS demos that Grohl recorded before the band's first album.
FOO FIGHTERS begin a massive North American tour in Washington D.C. on July 4 — the 20th anniversary of the release of the band's first album.
