DAVE NAVARRO Comments On ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction Ceremony
March 15, 2006Former JANE'S ADDICTION/RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and current THE PANIC CHANNEL guitarist Dave Navarro has posted the following message on his official web site:
"[Monday] night's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was spectacular. Ozzy, Geezer, Bill and Tony were given an incredibly warm and moving introduction by Lars and James of METALLICA, who later joined the rest of their band to perform SABBATH's 'Hole in the Sky' and 'Iron Man'. METALLICA definitely served the songs well. It was kind of surreal to watch a band play BLACK SABBATH songs while seated with BLACK SABBATH, but it was obvious that all four of the legendary members were very moved and enjoyed the show. It was an honor for me to be at this event as SABBATH was one of the bands responsible for shaping my musical direction. I owe a lot to them as does most of the heavy rock world and I think that this induction was long over due. Other artists inducted [Monday] night were THE SEX PISTOLS, BLONDIE, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, MILES DAVIS and legendary record moguls Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. The A and the M of A&M Records.
"The PISTOLS, in true form, chose to not attend the event and instead, sent a hilarious letter about the price of the tables that was read by Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner. During the BLONDIE acceptance speeches, the room got a little uncomfortable when former members of the group outted [Debbie] Harry for not allowing them to be a part of the performance on stage during the BLONDIE musical segment. Evidently she opted to perform the old BLONDIE songs with her new band and it was clear that the old members took this as an insult. As uncomfortable as it may sound, I have to give the guys credit for speaking their minds and making their point. After all, they were the ones who put in the years, wrote the songs and helped get the band to the point where they were able to be inducted in the first place. It would have been nice to see the old band reunited for the segment, but even still, Debbie's performance was on point and she hasn't lost a thing. Other highlights for me were meeting Peter Frampton and Brian May of QUEEN. Both of them mentioned what an awesome job the house band did with their songs on 'Rock Star' last season [which Navarro co-hosted]."
