DAVE NAVARRO To Be Honored At PETA's '30th Anniversary Gala And Humanitarian Awards'

September 3, 2010

JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro is among the celebrities who will be honored at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) 30th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards, which will be held on September 25 in Hollywood, California. Hosted by Alec Baldwin, the event will celebrate 30 years of cutting-edge campaigns that have brought about monumental change for animals and are leading to even more progress. This memorable night will feature a celebrity awards presentation, wonderful musical performances and other top-notch entertainment, delectable vegan food, unique silent auction items, and more in a historic and famous Hollywood setting.

"PETA has become a cultural force through creative campaigns that have made society re-examine its relationship with animals," Baldwin siad in a statement. "Nobody looks at fur, meat, circuses, or animal testing the way they did 30 years a go. PETA has brought us a long way, and we have a lot to celebrate."

Whether he's touring with JANE'S ADDICTION, hosting his radio show "Dark Matter", or posing nude for PETA, guitarist Dave Navarro does it with the style and intensity befitting a rock star.

Dave's latest gig is helping animals by baring it all in an ad for PETA's "Ink, Not Mink" series.

After learning about where fur comes from, this former fur-wearer vowed never to buy or wear fur again. Dave tells PETA in an exclusive interview, "Several years ago, I saw video footage of animals being skinned alive and screaming, and it, it honestly is the most horrific, inhumane thing I've ever seen." These animals are often still conscious as they have their pelts peeled off their writhing bodies and can be heard screaming in pain.

Buying and wearing fur promotes an industry filled with cruelty and suffering. Dave explains, "Some of the simple things you can do to help save animals is not buy fur, stay away from products that have been animal tested. It's really very, very simple to just support something or buy something that doesn't brutalize animals like this."
